Here's how my trip to Israel/Palestine and India/Sri Lanka unfolded in emails, notes and Facebook updates...

Dec 22. I'm getting excited about the Israeli/Palestinian training we're running over the New Year. Flying on Monday to Tel Aviv. About 100 people coming! Ten people on the training team.…

Ray Taylor An inspiring example

Tracy Seed Just Not Good Enough!

It’s just not good enough” this recent article in Nursery World caught my eye and held my interest, it was written by Julian Grenier, Early Years Advisor to Tower Hamlets Council, London.  I appreciate the eloquent and skillful way he presents this key message about the importance of: What we say and how we say it and caution over institutionalisation relating versus genuine human…

Gina Lawrie Captions for photo

Some of you will remember that I invited captions for a photo of my dog, Leah on one of the NVC Dance Floors. Some people assumed it was posed, but no, she just got on and lay down wrapping herself in the intention ribbon after I had facilitated a transformative session on the 13 step Dance Floor.

Here's the…

Dorothy Nesbit Taking steps towards freedom from the past

Even in prison there are ways to escape the constraints of the past - without jumping over the prison wall!

I was touched to see a brief video by Bay NVC about their work in California State Prison.  The focus is on the testimony of prisoners and of one member of staff who has spent 29 years working in the prison.  You can watch it by clicking on this link.

When I see…

Dorothy Nesbit Ten years after the day that became known as 9/11

It was bound to happen.  Ten years after the day that became known as 9/11, the events of 11 September 2001 have been extensively revisited.  I have been aware of television programmes, radio programmes.  Today I heard a review of a drama on the subject.

So many things have been in my thoughts.  In recent days, I have become aware of facts that were previously unknown to me.  Almost 3,000 people died as a result of the events of that day, for example, of whom about 46 were…

Elizabeth (Locana) English What can the riots teach me about my communication?

With the riots last week, I was moved to write an extra post on my blog - some small contribution amidst all the many varied voices. Thank you to those of you who have added your own thoughts at this time. Here are mine...

In any difficult situation, it’s natural to take sides. On one hand there are those people who are causing the problem (‘them’), and on the other hand, the people who are suffering (‘us’).

This quickly leads us…

Dorothy Nesbit When the riots started

UPDATES: Riots in Lewisham

On Monday, 8th August, 2011, I was at home in Lewisham when riots broke out.  Closing my computer at about 6pm I wandered from my office at the back of my house into my bedroom and was surprised by the number of people milling around in my usually quiet and peaceful street.  It didn't take long to realise that something was, as they say, "kicking off".
The image above is one of a car that was set alight by rioters across the street from my neighbours' house.  You…

Jo Raeburn an eleventh hour call for help at a camp in Devon.....

hi a friend of mine Simone is hosting a Powerwood family camp near Exeter this Sunday 14th to Friday 19th August

and is looking for someone willing to offer a brief basic intro to NVC as part of her varied programme of events throughout the week. Simone recently attended Gayano's Intro to NVC workshop with Gayano in Totnes and is really enthusiastic about introducing the essence of NVC to the 24 families attending her camp. So this is an eleventh hour request if you are interested or…

Dorothy Nesbit Healing relationships

Ray Taylor posted a link to a video on YouTube of (a younger) Marshall Rosenberg describing an experience of working with a father and son in response to a request by the son that they do some work together in front of the group.

Relationships within families can be the source of so much pain.  Sometimes it seems insurmountable to get over the mountain of issues involved.  And yet, just beneath the surface, there is often such a yearning for change on the part of all family…

Dorothy Nesbit How do children experience NVC?

Once more Ray Taylor has circulated some resources to members of the NVC community in the UK and this one caught my eye.  It's an interview by Miki Kashtan with her twelve-year old nephew Yannai on YouTube:  about eight and a half minutes long.  In it, she asks Yannai about his experiences of being brought up by parents who are both committed to practising NVC.

Follow this link if…

Dorothy Nesbit Are you willing? Miki Kashtan on maximising willingness for collaboration

I have agreed to take part in a small working group within the NVC community with the aim of producing a proposal.  This touches the challenge that faces us when we seek to make decisions in community, and especially in a community in which we are seeking both to be present to our own needs and to be present to the needs of others.

One approach that has been widely adopted amongst practitioners of nonviolent communication is sociocracy.  Still, it can be challenging to reach…

Dorothy Nesbit Choosing your NVC trainer

This week I fielded a question from a former colleague with whom I had shared my passion for nonviolent communication (or NVC).  He asked me:  Is there any way to check out ‘accredited’ NVC practitioners or do you know of any of repute based on personal/colleagues' experience?  As well as sharing his need for clarity and information, I'm guessing my colleague wants to learn in an environment in which he can feel confident that his needs will be met.  If you go to a training on NVC, you…
