NVC UK

IS there material available in order to practice NVC technique?

Whilst workshops and practice groups must be the best way, it would be helpful for some other material so one can develop speaking Giraffe.

Possibilities might be; a work book of exercises; eg translating jackal to Giraffe

separating observations from interpretation.

identifying feelings and needs

on-line or email coaching;

there are situations I find myself in where I feel quite angry/sad/upset but I cant identify what my needs are and I really want to develop a capciaty for intelligent self-empathy.

Have you read "The Surprising Purpose of Anger" by Marshall Rosenberg, and/or "What's making you angry? by Shari Klein and Neill Gibson?

Its nice to know that my post was read and there are people viewing the forum.

Hi Guy! Thanks for your forum post. Yes, I am happy too to see you got a response. Really hearing how you'd like to find resources that helps you practise NVC when you don't have a partner around to help with. Did you check out the free resources page? http://www.nvc-uk.com/page/free-resources - there is also a good workbook around by lucy leu which may help you? http://www.nonviolentcommunication.com/store/product_info.php?produ...

hugs! x

thank you Tamara; that looks as if it will be useful.

Thanks Tamara - I didn't know about the free material on this site.

Guy.

In addition to what other folk have suggested, you might try this workbook in electronic format called 'Compassionate Communication' written by LaShelle Lowe-Chardé specifically written for individual learning. I haven't used it myself, but it has been recommended to me.

Quite expensive, but definitely worth considering, is Marshall Rosenberg's 'Training Course' on CD and workbook.

Hope that helps.

Ian

Thank you

its a difficult process; I have the NVC workbook, but if i find there are not enough examples to help me through the "self-defender" and "self judge" exercises. I have a particular situation and the easiest option is not to raise it with the friends who have made choices that have not met my needs...but it leaves me spiralling into angst.

I will order this. I aim to learn girafee one way or another.

Goodness a Jackal diary; is it part of the british temperament to whine rather than speak with the person to whom we might make a request..

particularly when its your boss...and you wish he'd be a bit more transparent and upfront with clients about fees.

No how to translate this into giraffe; self epmathy first I think since I am not optomistic that he's going to change his ways.

  • You can join the online NVC practice group via www.nvcpractice.com - check out the docs there (and please add to them!)
  • We also have a Skype practice group (very effective and intimate - max 5 people) though you'd probably need to have been to 4 days of workshops - if you have, skype me: andyraytaylor
  • Ian's site NVCworld is very informative
  • NVC academy have lots of offerings
  • I agree about jackal diary and gratitude journal.

Hi there. The place to start is to sit quietly, and
watch all the thoughts and feelings as they
pass through your mind, and accept them all.
When we try to actively change or control our
thoughts & feelings they can seem to stick
even more. The mind is described as mirror-
like and reflects like the moon on the water.
But the reflection of the moon in the water is
not the moon. Sit and breathe and accept.
Only then might your mind relax enough to
begin to sense a feeling of space between the
thoughts. Buddhist meditation techniques will
be a great help. If u can't go somewhere to
learn them, then I recommend 'Joyful Wisdom'
by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, a Tibetan lama.
His teachings on basic meditation are excellent.

Good luck! Pema
